Sigma Featured Staff Member Of The Week
Kendall is one of our coaches at our Sigma Burleson THR location. Today we interviewed her focusing on coaching, motivation and fear.
Q: How and why did you become involved in the sport swimming?
A: I had tried every sport and couldn't find the one for me so when my mom suggested swimming, I decided to try it and have stuck with it for over 5 years.
Q: What do you hope your swimmers will learn from you?
A: I hope my swimmers will learn the same joy that I get from swimming.
Q: What does coaching the sport of swimming mean to you?
A: I love it so much. It's amazing to see the progress my swimmers make every week and how happy they are to swim.
Q: How did you stay motivated in the sport growing up, and how do you keep your swimmers motivated?
A: Motivation to stay swimming definitely came from my family because they kept pushing me even when I did want to quit. I keep my swimmers motivated my constantly telling them how great they are and telling them they can do it even when they believe they can't.
Q: What is your favorite thing about coaching the sport and your favorite thing about your swimmers?
A: My favorite thing about coaching is when a kid finally does something that we'd been really working at and seeing how proud they are of themselves. My favorite thing about my students is how persistent they are in trying to get better and how fun and happy they always are.
Q: What do you tell a young child that is afraid of the water at his/her first swim lesson and how do you try to make it less scary for them?
A: I assure the child that I’m there and nothing will happen to them. I also do it with them because it's better to do it with someone else than alone.
Q: How do you prepare a swimmer for his/her first USA swim meet?
A: Well I don’t have any swimmers currently preparing for their first meet, but I would tell them it’s a race against themselves and nobody else and that nobody in that pool should matter more than him/herself at that race.
Q: What is your favorite thing about being around your swimmers and the atmosphere of Sigma?
A: The atmosphere, swimmers, and even workers are all so positive. We always have laughs and so much fun every day.
Q: What do you like to do when you are not coaching?
A: I love sleeping, watching Netflix, and spending time with my closest friends.
