Sigma Featured Swimmer Of The Week
Marco is a 13-year swimmer that swims at our Sigma Swim Duncanville location under Coach Bekah. Marco attends Middle School in the Red Oak ISD and plans to swim for Red Oak High School
Q: How and why did you decide to become a swimmer?
A: I started swimming with Special Olympics in the 6th grade, when the season was over I wanted to keep swimming because I really liked this sport and enjoyed swimming, so I asked my mom to put me in a swim team. She found Sigma Swim and I am happy to be a Sigma swimmer.
Q: What does the sport of swimming mean to you and what would you say if you were told that you can’t swim anymore?
A: Swimming is very important to me because my body has changed for the better and I am a stronger person than before I started swimming. I will never stop swimming.
Q: Are there any athletes that inspire you the most and why?
A: Michael Phelps, his dedication and determination to always do his best inspires me to do the same.
Q: Who is your biggest supporter?
A: My parents and Coach Bekah
Q: How has swimming impacted your social life and how do you deal with it?
A: I am more comfortable socializing, I am more confident in myself and know that regardless of my autism, I can do anything I work hard for, because a diagnosis does not define me.
Q: Are there any life lessons you have learned, other than swimming, since you became a swimmer?
A: Practice and commitment give good results.
Q: What is your favorite and least event at a swim meet?
A: My favorite is the 100 freestyle, least favorite is the 200 backstroke.
Q: What do you think is your biggest accomplishment since you started swimming?
A: My technique and speed have improved.
Q: What do you like to do outside of swimming?
A: I enjoy competing in Special Olympics Track and Field, I will be competing in the State track and field Special Olympics on May 5-7, 2019 in San Antonio, swimming has made me a better athlete.
Q: What are your goals for the future in swimming?
A: I dream of swimming for a college team or becoming a swim coach one day.
