Last week, we started off our new series for beginning swimmers, talking all about just learning how to get in. This week, we will continue kicking off this introductory series by talking about the next major step: "Bobs".

Now that we've knocked out the 50% of learning to swim - getting in the water - we can get to stepwise progressions that allow first-time swimmers to thrive in aquatic environments. It is important to first address comfort level when immersing oneself in a new medium like a pool or ocean. These tips over the next handful of weeks will help teach good habits to boost this comfort and create the fun, fresh, and friendly environment that hopping in the pool can provide. After this, Bob's your uncle, and your children will be on their way to being proficient new fish.
Fact of the week: One of the biggest discomforts with swimming lies in the fact that it is much more difficult to be spatially aware - our feet don't stay rooted to the ground, nor can we move with such ease. Learning how to bob can improve one's ability to find orientation and security when wading around.
How does my child move up? Come to every swim class, bring your progress report, earn those stickers, and ask your child's instructor or location's deck manager if you have questions.
