Sigma Featured Swimmer Of The Week

Madeline O’Neill is a 10-year-old swimmer that swims at Sigma Swim's Fort Worth East location under Coach Josh. She attends Fort Worth Country Day in Fort Worth.

Q: How and when did you decide that you wanted to be a swimmer?

A: I decided I wanted to be a swimmer about 2 years ago. The reason I decided to swim, is because I swam at my country club and that was not enough for me.

Q: Are there any swimmers that inspire you the most and why?

A: Katie Ledecky inspires me because she is so fast and won gold medals in the Olympics at such a young age.

Q: How do you manage school and every day practice?

A: Every Sunday we find the three days I can swim that week. If I’m busy I swim one or two days.

Q: What do you tell your friends when they tell you that swimming is not a real sport?

A: Mostly they do not. But if they did, I would tell them that it is, and no matter what they say I will always be a swimmer.

Q: Who pushes you to perform your best?

A: My mom, dad, and coaches are probably the ones that do. They always tell me to try hard and do my best.

Q: What is your favorite stroke and why?

A: My favorite stroke is breaststroke. I like it so much because you never get out of breath easily and can go for long distances.

Q: How many hours a week do you practice per week?

A: I practice two-three days a week for an hour and a half.

Q: What do you like to do when you are not swimming?

A: When I am not swimming I like softball, tennis, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

Q: How do you deal with a bad race at a swim meet?

A: If I had a bad race in a swim meet I would be a little sad but that encourages me to try harder next time.

Q: Do you have any goals for the future in swimming?

A: My goals in the future are being a college swimmer, and if possible going to the Olympics.
